BOTH ends of the spectrum were affected by this result as Dingle remained top of the table thanks to a four point victory in Killorglin with the home side now in real relegation peril at the bottom of the table.
Shane O'Connor opened the scoring for the home side, but they soon found themselves 14 to 0-1 behind after 11 minutes when one of the Laune Rangers defenders managed to turn the ball into his own net after a bad defensive mix-up.
Pa Sheehan and Mike Frank Russell replied with points for Rangers before William Devane brought the advantage back out to five. A '45 metre effort from Paudie Murphy and a free from Russell left a goal in it at 1-5 to 0-5 before Tony Lyons stopped what looked to be a certain goal for Dingle yet the resulting ' 45' from Mikey Geaney had Dingle 1-6 to 0-5 ahead at the break.
The home side started the second half with a flourish, Russell putting Geoffrey O'Mahony through for a goal straight from the throw-in and O'Mahony soon level the scores up at 1-6 apiece, but that would be the closest they would come to the West Kerry side.
Four unanswered points from Devane, Geaney, Liam Higgins and Seamus O'Dowd had Dingle back in front by four with 15 minutes to go. Despite Russell's fourth point a brace from Geaney and another Devane effort put Dingle six ahead at 113 to 1-7 before Russell and Shane McSweeney added consolations for the home side before the final whistle.
Dingle's next game is crucial to their chances of making the final as victory at home to Dr Crokes could very well secure their place in that final. Laune Rangers' run-in is perilous to say the least as they face Ardfert, Kerins O'Rahillys and Annascaul away and host Rathmore in their final match. There really is little room for error for them at this stage of the campaign.
