NORTH KERRY SFC QUARTER-FINAL
Beale 1-14 Moyvane 2-6
BEALE are back in the North Kerry semi-finals.
They did so by out playing a determined Moyvane outfit in O'Rahilly Park, Ballylongford at the weekend.
The Seasiders were full of running, demonstrating ome fine combination play along with excellent football skills proved too much for a Moyvane side who started with a bang, but were completely outclassed during the second half and scoring just one point to Beale's ten.
The game was just under a minute old when Kevin Kennelly in the first attack lofted over for the game's opening score. Play swung from end to end and in the fifth minute disaster struck for Moyvane when Padraig Murphy sent in a high delivery and James McMahon got his fist to the ball, which ended up in the net. At this stage both Patrick Curtin and Brian Stack were causing plenty problems for the Beale defence.
Curtin with four points put his side ahead by the ninth minute. Then a two goal salvo from Brian Stack and Patrick Curtin in the 10th and 12th minutes had their side ahead 2-4 to 1-0. That had the Seasiders rattled. Slowly but surely they weathered the storm, however, and three points coming from Ian Blake, (2) and Tom Joy cut the deficit to a five point margin. It could be even closer by the 21st minute when Tom Joy slipped his marker placed Barry O'Mahony, who was hauled down and from the resultant penalty Moyvane's keeper Diarmuid Fitzmaurice dived full length to save a well struck kick from the boot of Ian Blake.
Shane Joy got the first of his two first half points along with a Curtin free to leave the half-time score – Moyvane 2-5 Beale 1-4.
On resumption the Seasiders came out with all guns blazing and inside the opening seven minutes the sides were all square. James McMahon, (2) Tom Joy and Declan Bambury adding the necessary scores. Brian Stack put Moyvane ahead in the 10th minute, but this was to be the only score of this half as Beale took over completely. Jeremy King had the measure of Patrick Curtin cutting off their real scoring threat, Paul Collins and Andy O'Connell formed a solid backline, but it was James McMahon who really showed what a wonderful footballer he is with a magnificent display of how to bring your team-mates into play.
Both himself and Ian Blake from opposite sides of the field on the sideline 35 meters in the second half lofted over for super scores. Tom Joy was also very much to the fore kicking three second half points along with Ian Blake and Jake O'Connell to secure victory. Beale used up their bench in the last few minutes as the Moyvane men could only admire a brilliant second half performance from the Seasiders who now go forward to a mouthwatering semi-final meeting with Listowel Emmets.
For Moyvane, who promised so much in the first half just crumbled as the game went on, but in fairness Diarmuid Fitzmaurice with his penalty save, Denis Kennelly, Aiden Keane, Cathal O'Connor who showed great determination throughout, Brian Stack and Patrick Curtin tried hard.
