BEALE SENIORS await the outcome of semi-final between Duagh and St Senans to decide the pairing for the 2012 Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial Championship final.
Having had a bye in the first round, Beale set out on the journey to the final with victory over Moyvane in the quarter final in Ballylongford on November 11th, by 1-14 to 2-6. Ballylongford was the venue again when we met Listowel Emmetts in the semi-final two weeks later. Nerves were frayed in a nail-biting finish when we held onto victory by the minimum on a scoreline of 2-7 to 2-6. The Eamonn O'Donoghue Cup was last lifted by a Beale captain in 1989, when we defeated Moyvane in a replay in Ballylongford on December 17th.
The victorious team: John Costelloe, Ted Griffin, John Farrell, Fergus Stack, Mike Purtill, Don Toomey (Captain), Diarmuid Toomey, Kevin Boyle, Dino Dowling, Billy O'Connor, Ogie Horgan, Paul Guerin, Liam Guerin, Seán Liston, Gerard Costelloe. Substitutes: Mike Joyce, Kevin Johnson, Martin Costelloe, James Fogarty, Tom Murphy, Jim Enright, Eddie Walshe, Liam Browne. Team manager was Liam Browne. Beale have contested 11 North Kerry Championship finals since our inaugural final in 1977, winning 7 and conceding just 3. However Beale's participation in the championship may be traced back to 1934 when many Beale players represented Craughdarrig in victory, and even as far back as 1925 when the local Faha team was defeated in the final by Moyvane (Newtownsands).
