LOG on and start your training, that was the message this week at the launch in Killarney on Saturday of the online registration portal for the 2014 Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle.
This year's Ring of Kerry Cycle takes place on Saturday, July 5, and up to 9,000 cyclists are expected to tackle the 180km route to raise funds for nine charities. While online registration closes officially on June 1 cyclists have been warned not to leave it too late as last year dozens of potential fundraisers missed out on taking part because the quota had been reached.
"As the cycle is limited to 9,000 cyclists for safety reasons we are encouraging people to register as soon as possible so not as to miss the opportunity to take part," said PRO Cathal Walshe.
To register online go to www.ringofkerrycycle.ie, all cyclists must pay a minimum donation of €70 to the charities and can choose to fundraise additional money by downloading a sponsorship card. The nine charities that will benefit from this year's cycle are: Ard Curam Day Care in Listowel, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, Irish Red Cross, Kerry Hospice Foundation,. Kerry Parents & Friends Association, Kerry Stars, Kerry Friends of Motor Neurone, Pieta House and Valentia Island Cottage Hospital.
