St Mary's Castleisland boys win Under-14 title

Adam Donoghue, St Mary's, who won the MVP award at the All-Ireland Basketball Championships

ST MARY'S Castleisland U-14 boys took part in the All Ireland Club Championship in Neptune at the weekend.

Their first game was against Kildare Glidens and St Mary's, which St Marys won by 24 points. Their next game was a tougher prospect against Sligo All Stars. They went basket for basket and at full time the sides were level. After three minutes extra time Sligo were victorious by 42-37.

St Marys then went into the division two semi-final where they met old rival Limerick Celtics and won this 57-44.

In the final St Mary's met Belfast Star, St Mary's were up 16-3 at the end of the first quarter. They continued their winning ways and were up 24-5 at half time. Belfast couldn't claw back the lead and with every member of St Mary's getting on the score sheet the lead continued to grow. At the final whistle it was St Mary's 50 Belfast Star 21.

MVP for the final went to Adam Donoghue of St Mary's.
