US college Hall of Fame award for Tralee's Mark Fitzgerald

FORMER Tralee Dynamos soccer player Mark Fitzgerald is to be inducted into the Mercyhurst University Athletic Hall of Fame this Saturday in recognition of his outstanding soccer achievements while on a soccer scholarship with the college in Pennsylvania between 1998 and 2001.
Fitzgerald was a standout defender for the men's soccer programme from 1997-2000, when he took up na scholarahip at the university.
He was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year three times and was an All-GLIAC selection all four seasons. Fitzgerald was also a three-time NSCAA All-Region member and was an NSCAA First Team All-American in 1998.
Fitzgerald, who played with and managed the Kerins O'Rahillys senior football team in recent years, helped Mercyhurst lead the GLIAC in scoring defense as a senior and also scored a career-high 16 points from his defensive position in his final season.
MArk is one of six individuals to be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame this Saturday as part of the third annual Mercyhurst Reunion Weekend festivities.
