IT was another fantastic achievement for underage sport in Listowel when a group of local girls brought back Munster gold representing their county in the provincial finals of the Community Games under-12s soccer.
Congratulations are due to Kelli McGrath, Cliona Pierse, Nadine Moloney, Aoife Horgan, Hannah Healy, Valerie Guiney, Kaci Jo Nolan, Niamh Canty, Aimee Mason, Finola Keane, Orla Donovan and Ava Grimes for their remarkable performance in the competition.
Coached by Aoife's mom Mary and sister Rebecca, the girls beat a very strong Limerick side 2-1 to meet Tipperary in the finals; held in the Tralee Institute of Technology. Tipperary proved a fierce test with the match scoreless at half-time. However, the girls came out on fire from the dressing rooms with Aoife Horgan scoring two goals.
Tipp players did all they could, clawing a goal, but Listowel emerged victorious and now go on to represent Munster in the national finals in Athlone shortly.
Best of luck to all the girls! The Community Games meanwhile call on everyone to support their annual fundraising flag day on Thursday, July 18, next.
