LB and Kenmare serve up a cracker
.Denny Division 1A
LB Rovers 1
Inter Kenmare 1
THIS top of the table clash lived up to its billing at sundrenched Ballybunion on Sunday and at the end of the day a draw was probably the correct outcome after a hard fought game that hung on the balance right up to the very end.
Inter dominated the opening half with Shannon Ryan and Connie Cremin very influential in the middle of the park orchestrating most of their penetrating moves. They should have gone ahead after just four minutes Derdie Casey set up a one two with Sean Murphy and when he got the return ball he shot wide with the goals at his mercy.
They went close again five minutes later and it took a good save by LB goalie Darren O'Connor to deny Connie Cremin. LB were adopting route one tactics with Mousserine their target man up front. However, he was being tightly watched by Thomas O'Sullivan and Mark Granville and was finding it difficult to create chances.
LB has a good chance in the 24th minute when Mousserine flicked on a high ball into the box, but Barry O'Hare had a clear shot from 10 yards but executed a very tame effort which did not bother Gary Cassidy in the Kenmare goals.
Shortly afterwards play moved down the other end with Matt Holland and Derdie Casey combining to free Shannon Ryan but he shot low and wide. LB then got a free kick 10 yards outside the box but it was put over the top by Eoin O'Mahony.
Inter made a change at half time bringing on Martin Urbich for Thomas O'Sullivan. LB began the second half with a spring in their step and were beginning to take the game to their opponents. However, they were rocked in their heels five minutes in when Derdie Casey won the ball out on the wing and swung in a great ball to Sean Murphy who hit it on the turn and drilled it low past the LB keeper.
LB had a good chance to equalize on the hour mark when they worked the ball down the left flank with Mousserine drilling the ball in to Eoin O'Mahony, but when the chance came it was on his wrong foot and he was unable to test the Inter goalie. However, as they continued to mount attacks they got back on level terms in the 68th minute from a set piece situation.
Good work by Mousserine earned a corner kick out on the left. It was floated in to the goalmouth by Barry O'Hare by and as all the big men watched each other in sneaked 15 year old super sub Jonathan Carr and he poked the ball home from eight yards for a stunning equaliser.
LB now looked the more likely side to win and they introduced a couple of subs and began to put some good constructive moves together. Barry O'Hare had two good chances for LB, but he was denied on both occasions by superb saves by Inter goalie Gary Cassidy.
His first effort a free kick from outside the box seemed destined for the net, but Cassidy done exceptionally well to claw it away from the top corner while afterwards he dived low to deny the striker again.
As the game entered the concluding stages both sides seemed to be happy enough to ease down and accept a share of the spoils. Inter remain top of the table after this game while LB are four points behind with two games in hand.
