I DON'T know about you, but the phrase "Champions League group-phase" doesn't exactly set the pulse racing for us here at TheWeekInSport. More coma inducing than anything else.
That's not to say there haven't been good games (Barcelona's visit to Park head) or that there hasn't been good football played (Dortmund are playing great stuff as is their wont under Jurgen Klopp), it just lacks that real competitive edge and yes Man City being knocked out and Chelsea standing on the brink kinda goes against that particular suggestion. Still how many of you out there would pine for a return of the second group phase of a few years ago?... I thought as much.
A frightening prospect then would be the expansion (a proposal by UEFA) to expand the competition to a 64 team tournament. A never ending story more like. It's a crazy suggestion. So crazy it just might happen.
