Sporting, tourism and business bodies across Kerry joined forces in recent months to create and market the Kerry Activity Experience, a fortnight-long festival of sport, that has been organised around some of the summer's major sporting activities in the Kingdom and is the first promotion of its kind ever seen in the country.

The concept of the two week sporting festival was to provide the county with a flagship international event in what is the fastest growing sector in global tourism and travel; sports and adventure tourism.

The event incorporates the Munster GAA Football final, The Ring of Kerry Cycle and will also feature a fun-packed schedule of events including five new mass participation and spectator activities for Kerry.

These include the new John Egan Under 14 GAA International Tournament, a brand new Under 13 FAI Soccer Tournament, TriGrand Prix Ireland Tralee Triathlon, Kerry Walking Day with Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership and a Family Pedal in the Park.

After an official opening night at The Kingdom Greyhound Stadium on Friday, Kerry's fortnight of athletics and sport will begin in earnest on Saturday with the Tralee Triathlon.

Tralee's historic Ship Canal will be the focal point of what its hoped will become an annual feature on Kerry's sporting calender. The triathlon which takes place on Saturday, June 29 will see hundreds of individual competitors and teams swim the canal, then take to their bikes on a route which will take the riders through The Spa and Ardfert before they run back to the canal basin on the event's final leg.

There will be a series of events on the day to suit everyone from the first time triathlete to the more experienced triathlete and ten separate competitions will be held including different distances to suit all abilities and a number of relay events.
