Tralee jockey Philip Enright came in for a spare mount in the featured Grade C KWD handicap hurdle at Killarney on Saturday, and made most of the opportunity presented to him on 7/1 chance, The Boat People, on which he was seen to tremendous effect.
Taken to the front from the start, he was headed at the third after a slow jump, but Philip quickly had him back in contention and regained his lead at the sixth. Two out he was a length clear when making another mistake, but Enright's perseverence had him back in front, and under a terrific drive to the line prevailed gamely by a length from Mister Hotelier.
Trainer Henry De Bromhead was effusive about Enright's performance. ''Philip gave him a super ride. He has gone up a stone since his owners bought him. He is a very tough fun horse, and we may go to Aintree in the spring with him."
