Success for Kerry on first weekend

The first weekend of our National Finals of Community Games took place in Athlone last weekend with great performance by children representing the areas in Kerry. The following events were on show last weekend Badminton, Chess, Choir, Cross-country, Culture Corner, Debating; Draughts; Handball, Mixed Distance Relay; Pitch & Putt; Rugby Hyrid; Rugby Mini; Rugby Tag; Soccer Outdoors; Table Quiz u14; Table Tennis; Throw Ball; Variety; Art; Cycling on Grass; Dualthlon; Gymnastics; Handwriting, Judo and Swimming with children competing in many of these.
The following are the children who were lucky enough to get into the medals placings - only limited results to hand - all results will be published next week.
Art: Art is one of the largest of events at Community Games and well contested - well done to our Caitriona and Christine for their success. U8 Caitriona McKenna (Fossa) - 4th place; U14 Christine McCarthy (Kenmare) - 1st; Boys U12 - Caleb Brosnan (Kenmare) - 3rd; Boys 14 - Cathal McLoughlin (Blennerville/Ballyard), Handwriting U10:- Handwriting in Kenmare is obviously at a huge standard with our two competitors representing Kerry and Kenmare getting into medal positions - Jake Borst (Kenmare) - 2nd; Ella Guerin (Kenmare) - 4th.
Swimming: Swimming - always a hugely competitive competition - no different this year and getting into medal placings and finals is always a difficult task.
Freestyle U12 - Erin O'Halloran (Castlegregory) - 1st; Breaststroke U12 - Sadhbh Daly (Listowel); and the following children although not in the medals made it into finals:- Sarah Gavaghan (U16 Butterfly); Jenny Fox (U14 Breaststroke); U16 Girls Squad. Gymnastics: Gymnastics in Kerry is thriving with Kerry coming home with four medals - U13 Girls - Jessica Murphy (Ardfert/Kilmoyley) - 1st; Boys U9 - Luke Rochford (Ballyduff) - 1st; Boys U13 - Ruairi Murpy (Milltown) - 4th; U13 - John Fok-Seang (St Brendans/Oakpark) - 4th. Draughts: Well done to Ballyheigue who got Bronze medals in Under 10 & Under 12 competitions. Badminton: Congratulations to Annascaul/Camp/Inch on getting Bronze.
