Shelbourne Park Derby day is kind to the Kingdom

DERBY night was a great night for the Kerry greyhound fraternity at Shelbourne Park.

Ballydonoghue's Paddy Purtill saw a greyhound he trained – Skywalker Puma – score a thrilling victory in the final of the €120,000 Ladbrookes Irish Derby, netting the North Kerry man an impressive €12,000. The Frances O'Donnell trained Skywalker Puma produced a wonderful run from the off pace to win by a neck from the front running Cuil Cougar in 29.39, justifying 2/1 favouritism in the process.

Liam Dowling added to the Kingdom's success on the night with victory in the Derby consolation final for his Ballymac Vic.

He led off the first bend and stayed firmly in control to win by a length and a half from Kilbarry Rover.
