ONE OF Killarney's best all-round sportsmen was honoured on Thursday evening when Shane Doolan received the Sean O'Connor Memorial Trophy as Player of the Year for his club, Killarney Athletic AFC.
Shane, who has yet to feature this year due to injury, received the cup from Martin Beckett Sr and Mary O'Connor at Athletic's grounds for his efforts with the senior team last year.
"This is a well-deserved accolade for a man who played in two very central positions last year – centre-half and centre-midfield," said Killarney Athletic Chairman Tom Tobin. "Shane has played with the club all the way up through the underage ranks and is very committed to his training. "
Last year's senior team manager Allen Brady and this year's 'gaffer' Sean O'Donoghue were on hand to honour Shane on the night, after he missed the club's awards night back in August.
Tom said that Shane's "overall skill, control on the ball and vision is nothing short of top class" and this is surely helping him in his current efforts with the Dr Crokes senior football team as they compete for All-Ireland glory.
Having represented Kerry in soccer at both senior and underage levels, "Killarney Athletic was delighted to present the cup to Shane, who is such a deserving clubman," added Tom.
