IT is not easy to get coursing-bred greyhounds to show consistency on the track, but Polar Run (Adios Alonso - Chubbys Melody) has certainly managed to do that for Castleisland owner, Liam Glasheen.
She was running in the final of the Abbeydorney Coursing 325 Sweepstake at Tralee Track last Saturday night and, as she had done in the opening two rounds, she trapped quite brilliantly and powered home three lengths ahead of Aim To Excel in 17.94, which was the best time recorded in the event.
It was a good result for the punters, too, with Pllar Run being the even-money favourite. Her main rival in the betting market, Ballybunion Mary, was buffeted on the outside rounding the first bend and wound up in fifth place.
The programme also featured the semi-finals of 12-greyhound sweepstakes sponsored by the track supporters' club and they will be brought to a conclusion this Friday night.
One of the sweepstakes is for A2 class over 525yds and the likely winner is the locally-owned Dramatic Missile, which clocked 28.96 in winning the second semi-final (the first semi-final was won in 29.10 by Ballinorig Gold).
The supporters' club also catered for A7 class and the two semi-finals provided runaway winners in Coolavanny Lucky (29.20) and Droopys Coast (29.01). The faster time swings the vote in the final for Droopys Coast.
Other winners on Saturday night: La La Loopsie, 29.92; Daleroad Rumble, 18.01; Conor Pass Jill, 42.87; Fire Height Lulu, 18.20; Ballybane Niamh, 29.38.
