Ballybunion's Emma O'Driscoll fired rounds of 77 and 83 to finish in fifth spot behind the winner Paula Grant (whom she beat to win the Irish Girls Close Championship in 2009) at the Intervarsities championships at the Heritage Golf Club in Laois at the weekend.
Irish International O'Driscoll, who turned 21 on St Patricks Day, is currently studying at UCD and will of course be a vital member of the Munster team at the Interprovincials championships next week at Castle Dargan Golf Club in Sligo.
Fellow Munster Interprovincials Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) and Sinead Sexton (Lahinch) finished 3rd and 4th respectively at the Heritage which will no doubt please the Munster selectors.
The southern province have not won the title since 2003 and in the nine years since, it has been dominated by reigning champions Leinster who have won seven times with Ulster winning back to back titles in 2010 and 2011.
What are Munster's chances next week ? Its hard to tell really, but the selectors have opted for a very young side indeed and maybe, just maybe, they can pull it off, but the smart money would once again be on either Leinster or Ulster.
