THE third and final round of the An Ríocht 5k series attracted an entry of 377 in Castleisland on Friday evening last.
With many of the final placings still in the balance we had some very exciting competitions. James Doran (An Ríocht) and Carol Finn (Leevale) recorded their second wins in the senior sections to take the overall series. Doran laid down a marker when he went to the front at the 2k mark and pushed on from there to win from John Barrett and Robert Purcell (both Gneeveguilla). Barrett secured second overall from Donal O'Callaghan (An Ríocht) in third. Carol Finn was equally impressive when winning from Catriona Barry (F/fore M/valley) and Siobhan Daly (An Ríocht). Daly was second in the series from Barry.
We had many eye-catching performances in all categories. Robert Purcell Jnr (Gneeveguilla) in the Junior Men's and Kevin Donoghue (An Ríocht) in the Under 16 were both impressive when winning their sections. Katie Reidy, Clodagh Enright and Maeve Kearney (An Ríocht) had some fine performances in the U16 Girls'. In the Masters Men's competition Robert Purcell, Willie Reidy (An Ríocht) and Jim Langan (Tullamore) had some fine runs, as did Tina Donovan, Majella Diskin and Marie Walsh in the Women's section.
