THE culmination of hard slog and effort over the past ten weeks will bear fruition at the Presentation Gym, Tralee on tonight [January 8] where the finals of the mens and ladies leagues will take place commencing at 7.45.

Definitely the final pairings bear the look of a Moyvane/ Killarney take away with the North Kerry club holding the strongest hand of all. Not alone are Moyvane contesting all the deciders on the night, the Division 4 mens final will hold a lot of bragging rights as it pits the Moyvane A side against the Moyvane B side, surely a testament of the strength of the game in the famed borough of Moyvane.

The other three finals; the Ladies Division 4 game and both Division 3 deciders are all Moyvane v Killarney confrontations and all are worthy of travelling to view and all promises to give the game of badminton a great start to 2014 within the county.

This weekend will also see the annual Listowel tournaments take place at the local Community Centre with Divisions 1 & 2 plus the Masters on Saturday and catering for Kerry Divisions 3,4 and 5 on Sunday.

The Saturday programme includes the 43rd Annual Mixed doubles competition which could be termed the highlight of the weekend and this attracts players from most of the Munster Counties and beyond.

Entry forms are now with all club secretaries and players are requested to adhere to the times as listed. The post Christmas period is the busy season of the Badminton calendar and the important events on the fixture list for the month of January are as follows:

January 14: Kerry Schools competitions at the Killarney Sports Centre, 10am.

January 19: Munster Senior 2 and Graduates Championships; venue, Killarney Sports centre, 10am

January 26: Commencement of the CPC.ie sponsored Kerry Badminton County Championships which will be the singles championships for both Ladies and Men in Divisions 1,3 and 5.

County championships are the crème de la crème of all sports and the fulfilment of winning a County Championship title is the dream of all players no matter at what level. Again, a reminder to all players that the entry forms for these championships have been distributed to all clubs so all are advised to enter in good time.
