No ifs, buts or maybes as College falters

GREYHOUND racing can bring you down very quickly and a typical example of that is College Maybe, which Maurice O'Connor trains in Scartaglin for Frank Culloty, of Killarney.
In the second round of an open 525yds sweepstake at Limerick track last Saturday week, College Causeway clocked an amazing 27.95 and it was no surprise that she was 4/7 favourite to follow up with another win at the semi-final stage last Saturday night. However, she badly missed her break this time, got herself into serious traffic problems, and she failed to qualify in fourth place.
One night, she wins by twelve lengths in fantastic time. A week later, she is beaten by six lengths in a time that was 53 spots slower than her second-round time. Not easy to get your head around that, but, then, nothing is ever predictable in greyhound racing, even if seems pretty safe to assume that College Maybe will soon be back bursting the clock again.
