NEXT week will be a very busy and exciting one for the U-14 boys and girls teams from Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club. They are taking part in the 'Comórtas Peile John Egan' as part of the Gathering 2013. The tournament is named in honour of the great Kerry legend and Sneem native, John Egan. Clubs from all over Ireland were requested to participate.
The Desmonds Ladies Club will host the visiting team from Blessington, Co. Wicklow and the Desmond's Coiste na nOg will host St. Mary's from Sligo. Upon arrival in Castleisland the locals will mingle with the visitors at a specially convened event in Crag Caves.
Lisa Geaney, Crag Cave, has put together an exciting evening for all the players, after which a friendly match for the ladies clubs will take place at the Desmond's pitch. On Thursday the football tournaments continue for the boys and begin for the ladies. Five visiting teams from Cavan, Louth, Wicklow and Kildare along with seven Kerry teams will take part in the Ladies tournament held in Rathmore and Fossa pitches. Over thirty boys teams will play at venues located throughout the county.
Killarney town centre will come to a stand-still on Thursday evening at 5pm as the fifty teams move through the streets of the town. A wonderful array of colour will be shown by each club as they march behind three pipe bands before attending a concert in the INEC by Scor musicians.
Fitzgerald Stadium is the venue for the finals of the competition to be held on the last day of the tournament. Past and present Kerry players will attend to encourage, support and assist the boys and girls as they aim to claim the Comortas Peile John Egan trophies. We hope the boys and girls from Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club will be there on Friday to bring them home!
