Ryan replaces O'Shea as Kerry minor boss

PAT Ryan of Tralee Parnells has been confirmed as the new Kerry minor hurling manager, taking over from Seanie O'Shea who guided the Kingdom to an All Ireland minor B title last September. Kilmoyley's Ian Brick joins Ryan as team trainer / coach, while St Brendans Ger Hussey and Ballyduff's Kieran Houlihan have come on board as selectors.

On Saturday the minors played their first game in the Leinster Minor 'B' League. Kerry are not playing in the Munster minor championship this year so this competition is quite an important alternative. Carlow had quite an amount of preparation behind them and are due to play Offaly in the Leinster Championship in early April. Despite an excellent display, Kerry went down eventually by just four points, 2-13 to 1-12.

Kerry: Brendan Dunne (Ballyheigue), Brian Cantillon (Causeway), Tadhg Brosnan (Lixnaw), Cathal Kearney (Ballyduff), John Hussey (Ballyduff), Keith Carmody (Causeway), Darragh Shanahan (Lixnaw), Paudie O'Connor (Kilmoyley), Aaron Murphy (Dr. Crokes), Philip Lucid (Ballyheigue), Michael O'Leary (Abbeydorney), Michael Lynch (Causeway), Stephen O'Sullivan (Abbeydorney), Jason Wallace (Lixnaw), Chris Donsel (Dr. Crokes). Subs: William O'Connor (Lixnaw), Patrick McElligott (St. Brendan's), JP Byrne (Abbeydorney), Seamus Teague (Ballyduff)

Kerry's next game in this league will be on Saturday, March 16 against Wicklow at a neutral venue.

Seniors

THE senior hurlers make the trip to Portlaoise on this Sunday to take on Laois in round 2 of the Allianz Hurling League, Division 2A. Laois, who compete at a higher level, play in this year's Leinster Championship and are undoubtedly the strongest team in the division.

However, Kerry have the confidence of a round 1 win over fancied Westmeath behind them and can travel with confidence (pictured, Darragh O'Connell). Throw-in is 2pm.

THE dates have been finalised for the County Under 16 hurling leagues. Round 1 will be on Sunday, March 31 and Round 2 on Sunday, April 7. Thereafter rounds will be played on Thursday evenings, on the 11 18 and April 25, while the semi-finals are on Thursday, May 2 with the Finals on Thursday, May 9.
