McCarthy Insurance Senior League Division 2 Semi-final

Knocknagoshel 1-7

Ballylongford 2-11

THIS was a repeat of the County Novice Championship game of previous weekend, where Knocknagoshel ran out comprehensive winners.

Ballylongford supporters were understandably not too confident coming into this game, but they need not have been as it was all Ballylongford in the first eight minutes. They attacked the goalposts nine times with only one score from the boot of Kieran Mulvihill in the seventh minute and at the other end Knocknagoshel had two points – one apiece from Dan Roche and Niall Barrett.

Knocknagoshel pointed in the 12th minute – a free from Edmund Walsh that was to be their score of the half. Ballylongford went on to score five more points, three from Kieran Mulvihill, a point each from Jeremiah Tydings and Joe McCarthy. Half-time Ballylongford 0-6 Knocknagoshel 0-3.

At the beginning of the second half we waited for the Knocknagoshel come back, but it took until the 13 minute for the first score from Edmund Walsh. Walsh pointed a free in the 15th minute, but Ballylongford's reply came in the 17th minute from a free coverted by Jeremiah Tydings, Tydings went on to score two more in the 19th and 20th minutes. Knocknagoshel's Edmund Walsh, who played well throughout pointed in the 22nd minute.

Sub Brendan Bambury from Ballylongford replied a minute later with his own point, but the turning point of the game came when wing-forward for Ballylongford, Matt O'Connor, fisted a ball over the approaching goalkeeper head and it ended up in the net in the 25th minute. Again in the 28th minute, O'Connor fired the ball to the back of net.

In quick reply Knocknagoshel moved the ball fast into their corner-forward Kevin Connolly, who fired the ball into the corner of the net in the 29th minute. Into injury time and a point apiece for both sides game into the 31st Knocknagoshel's Edmund Walsh and 33rd minute Ballylongford's Jermiah Tydings.

Division 1 U16 League

Semi Final

St Senans 4-12

Listowel Emmets 1-13

A GREAT evening's entertainment was provided by the U-16 footballers of St Senans and Listowel Emmets in Moyvane.

Emmets played with the strong breeze in the opening half and led at the break by 0-7 to 0-2.The Emmets scorers were Brian Sweeney (0-3, 1f), Sam Tarrant (0-2), John Leahy (0-1), Jack Wall (0-1) with David Behan scoring both of Senans points, one from a free. The second half saw St Senans chip away at the margin between the sides reducing the deficit to a point with ten minutes to play.

A Roger Lawson goal for Emmets with seven minutes to play seemed to be a decisive score but credit to Senans they didn't drop the heads and three points separated the sides as we entered injury time. Emmets were under severe pressure at this stage and defended manfully, but in the fifth minute of injury time a high ball across the square was fisted to the net by Colin Browne to tie the scores at 1-9 each and send the game into extra time.

The first period of extra time saw Senans score 2-1 to Emmets 0-2 and try as they did Emmets could add only two points in the second period to Senans' 1-2. This was a cracking game of football with some great passages of play by both sides, which were rightly applauded off the field by all those present.
