Two Kerry boxers carried the hopes of the Kingdom in the quarter-finals of the 2013 Elite National Boxing Championships in the National Stadium in Dublin last Saturday night.
Brian Brosnan from Castleisland beat Fergal Redmond from Arklow on a computer score of 11-4, but Will Byrnes of Duagh lost 14-10 to Limerick's Krys Sikora.
Brian Brosnan will be returning to the stadium this weekend for the semi-finals of the welterweight category. The Castleisland warrior will be facing strong opposition from one of three world class boxers, Adam Nolan, Willie McLaughlin or John Joe Joyce.
Asdee's Moira McElligot will compete in the 64kg category, as will Dublin's Kelly Harrington, and Belfast's Sara Close and Alana Audley-Murphy.
Over a decade ago the then 16-year-old Audley - Murphy met the then 15-year old Katie Taylor in the first officially sanctioned female bout at the National Stadium. Taylor won.
