IN the under-10 Boys Indoor Soccer, a new competition, 14 teams competed in two venues divided into a group of four and a group of three in both venues. In Listowel Community Centre in Group 1, after six exciting games involving Killarney South, Ardfert/Kilmoyley, Annascaul/ Camp/Inch and Ballyheigue, both Annascaul/ Camp/Inch and Ballyheigue finished tied at top of table resulting in replay with Ballyheigue winning by 3-0. In Group 2, Ballyduff topped the table with victories over Lixnaw 6-1 and Knocknagoshel 4-1. In Mountcoal Sports Centre in Group 1, Castlegregory topped the table here with victories over Ballylongford 6-2 and Moyvane/Knockanure 2-0 and a 2-2 draw with Duagh/Lyre.
In Group 2, Listowel qualified with victory over An Gaelteacht 5-4 and Beaufort 4-2. Both semi-finals both went to extra-time with Ballyduff defeating Listowel 3-2 and Ballyheigue defeating Castlegregory 5-4. In the 3rd/4th play-off game, Listowel won the bronze medals by defeating Caslegregory 3-2 who collected the certs and in the final Ballyduff are the first winners of the u10 boys indoor soccer competition and collected the gold medals with a 6-1 victory over a gallant Ballyheigue side who received the silver medals.
In the under-13 Girls indoor Soccer semi-finals Beaufort saw off Rock St/Caherslee 5 goals to 1 & Duagh/Lyre defeated Ballyduff 3-2 in penalties after the game finished deadlocked 0-0. In the 3rd/4th play-off game Rock St/Caherslee collected the bronze medals with 2-1 victory over Ballyduff who received the certs.In the Final, here Beaufort went on to deny a young Duagh/Lyre team their quest for four in a row in this competition with a brilliant display winning by 6-1 to collect the county title and gold medals and look as if they may go all the way to the national title-(I hope I have'nt jinxed them) with Duagh/Lyre getting the silver medals. Ballyduff under-10 Boys and Beaufort under-13 Girls will now represent Kerry at the provincial finals in Tralee on Easter Saturday March 30.
On Friday in Abbeydorney the recitation, culture corner and drama events take place with a 6pm sign for all events. On Sunday in Listowel Community Centre, the chess and draughts competitions take place with a sign in time of 11am and 1pm respectively.
The National Community Games AGM takes place in Tullamore on the weekend of February 22/23/24, therefore there will be no competitions held on that weekend.Our next competitions are to be held on the weekend of March 2/3 with closing dates for entry being Thursday 21st February.These events are art, handwriting, dancing (modern) solo and group, set dancing and Irish contemporary dance and under-11 mini rugby.
