Ex-Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue could not be contacted on Tuesday to confirm or deny intense speculation that he is considering running in the forthcoming Kerry County Council elections.
Speculation is rife that the former minister, who lost his seat in the last general election, will be added to the south and west Kerry Fianna Fáil ticket In a move that would possibly involve an exchange with his brother and sitting councillor Paul. Cllr Paul O'Donoghue could also not be contacted for comment.
Well placed party sources told The Kerryman on Tuesday that moves were being made to place John O'Donoghue on the ticket and that party HQ had been informed.
Comhairle Dail Ceanntair Secretary John Hannan said he had heard the rumours but added that the electoral area ticket remained unchanged with Paul O'Donoghue, Mike O'Shea, John Francis Flynn and Brendán Fitzgerald named.
