OVER the next two weekends Scartaglin based Sliabh Luachra Drama Group will present its 15th annual production, Michael J. Ginnelly's three-act comedy 'Wake In The West'.

The plot centres on the wake of Tom Healy, a man who was known to be 'fond of the drop'.

Tom's controversial last request threatens to humiliate his family and make them the laughing stock of the small fishing village in which they live. Not your regular mass-goer, Tom's wishes have to be discussed with the priest and doctor - all common practice in 1970s Ireland. The real mayhem begins when Rose, an elderly neighbour arrives at the house to pay her respects and her actions set in motion a sequence of hilarious events.

"The cast has really enjoyed doing the play so far and it really promises to be a hilarious night's entertainment," said group spokesperson, Moira O'Connor.

The cast includes: Tom Healy: Thade Hickey, Rose: Moira O' Connor, Mary: Nora Walsh, Joan: Sinead O' Driscoll, Martin: Danny O' Leary, Dr. John: Tim Dineen, Fr.Cassidy: Dermot O' Leary, Margaret: Catriona Hickey and Barney: Sean McGuire.

This year's play is produced by Sean McGuire, who has acted in a number of plays but is producing for the group for the first time.

"This is our 15th play and we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and hard working group.

The set is wonderfully put together by the hard work of Dermot and Danny O' Leary with help from Thade Hickey.

Wake In The West runs from this Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, January 31st February 1st and 2nd. And on the following weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights: February 7th, 8th and 9th at the same venue at 8pm.nightly.
