A NORTH Kerry teen who claimed he drank just two pints before driving home on St Stephen's Night was found to be well over the legal alcohol limit and has been disqualified from driving for a year
A sample taken from Edward Michael Kennedy of Sandquay, Ballylongford on December 31 last showed a concentration of 113mg of alcohol per 100 mil of urine - well above the new legal limit of 67mg which came into effect just two moths before he was stopped.
The 19 year old pleaded guilty to the offence at Listowel District Court on Thursday, where it emerged that his arrest followed an accident at Hedford, Listowel, when he failed to take a bend.
His solicitor, Maurice O'Sullivan said his client had only two pints on the night and the minor accident was simply because he wasn't a very experienced driver.
He added that the mandatory disqualification of one year was the same as putting him off the road until he is 25, given the problems he'll have paying for insurance before then.
