Two Garda stations to close this week

BROSNA and Abbeydorney garda stations are to close on Thursday in an event greeted with deep anger and sadness by locals who fear they will be more vulnerable to criminals. The fear is more keenly felt in Brosna which, at 30kms from the next nearest station, is considerably more remote.
Locals meanwhile are calling for the Brosna garda station building to be handed over to the community for use as a heritage centre in the hope of at least one positive outcome from the move.
Fear was sparked and anger heightened when the government announced its plans to close Brosna along with nearly 100 other rural stations nationwide in November.
