THREE north Kerry people can count themselves as incredible endurance athletes when they cycled for 12 hours straight as part of an unusual fundraiser in Listowel on Friday.
The Listowel Spinathon saw athletes Mary Toomey Roche, Siobhán Dowling and Frank Hughes cycling almost non-stop for 12 hours on special ' spinning' cycling machines erected in the Square.
The event co-incided with the turning on of Listowel's Christmas tree lights and the launch of the Listowel Marketing Group's new website for the town, getting Christmas off to a great start.
The Spinathon was held in aid of the local Community Centre, who also supplied the 10 spinning machines.
"It was fantastic and all credit to the three of them, they were amazing," Listowel Community Centre manager Tony Duggan said.
"Thankfully we had therapist Kay McDonnell on hand to massage their aching muscles over the course of the 12 hours. We were delighted with the response from the community and the Horseshoe Bar and Allo's came to the aid of the athletes with food during their big test," Tony added.
"It was a fantastic event that helped establish a great Christmas atmosphere in town!"
