A NEW bridge in Mid Kerry has been dedicated to the memory of a prominent local businessman.
The bridge, situated at Tulligmore on the N70 Killorglin to Glenbeigh Road, was officially opened and dedicated last Friday to the memory of the late Michael J Hoare.
Mr Hoare's well-known family-run agricultural machinery sales business is situated close to the new structure.
The new eight-metrewide bridge replaces a bridge which narrowed the roadway. The bridge is a single box culvert, made of pre-cast concrete, with aluminium and mesh ramparts. Coffey Construction Ltd were the contractors that constructed the new piece of infrastructure.
Glenbeigh-based Cllr Michael Cahill proposed at the January meeting of Kerry County Council that the new bridge be dedicated to Mr Hoare, a proposal that was unanimously accepted by members of the Local Authority.
Last Friday's dedication was attended by councillors of the Killorglin Local Electoral Area, representatives of Kerry County Council management and of the Hoare family.
