The late Sean Leahy
SEAN Leahy died in New York on Sunday, August 19th, 2012. He was the second son of Annette and Tim Leahy of Manor West, Tralee.
He emigrated to America in 1961 where he worked at various occupations before joining United Airlines at La Guardia Airport where he stayed until his retirement.
Prior to leaving Ireland he worked for Post Office Clerical in Wexford, Dublin, Kildare and Clare.
While in Dublin he played Championship football with Geraldines and with Sarsfields at club level in Kildare but also togged out for the Kildare Senior team on two successive years.
Of course his first love was for John Mitchels with whom he won a County Minor Championship in 1954 but also represented Mitchels at senior level.
While in New York he married Ann Sammon who came from Clare and they went on to live in Wantagh in Long Island.
They had a family of two, Eileen and Sean who still reside in Long Island close to the family home.
Burial took place on Wednesday, August 22nd after mass in the Church of Saint Frances de Chantal in Wantagh.
He is survived in Tralee by his three sisters and six brothers and their extended families and by his five granddaughters in Long Island.
Months Mind mass for Sean will be celebrated at The church of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, September 17th at 7.30pm.
