Rev Watterson, a mother of three who is originally from Manchester but spent most her life on the Isle of Man, was ordained as a deacon in 1987 and became a priest in 1994. She was part of the first group of women to enter the priesthood in Britain.

In 2003, having spent four years as director of the Church of Ireland Ministry of Healing, she moved to Killarney where she became part time priest in charge of Killarney, a position she held until May of this year.

After leaving Killarney she spent a brief time at St Fin Barre's Cathedral in Cork. She learned of the vacancy in Tralee and Dingle and immediately applied for the position. She said she was delighted to get the opportunity to return to Kerry.
