THERE' has been a massive response to Tralee Musical Society and The Kerryman's plans to bring the legendary Tops of the Town Competition back to the stage in Kerry in early 2013.
Last month The Kerryman announced it was teaming up with the award winning musical society to bring back the competition which was such a smash hit in Kerry from the late 1960s right through until the mid 80s.
After just a few weeks we've had applications from all over Kerry with community groups, musical societies, workmates and pub teams from Tralee, Killarney, Killorglin, Castelisland, Ballyheigue and farther afield all coming on board.
Such is demand that we've decided to extend the closing date for applications until January 10 so everyone who'd like to take part is able get involved.
"We're thrilled with the response. We have groups signing up from all over Kerry. People loved Tops and they've really embraced the idea of bringing it back. We want as many groups as possible to get involved. We want to make this as big as possible and spread it right across the entire county," said Tralee Musical Society's Tim Landers.
Open to groups of up to 30, with a minimum age of 16, the only absolute requirement is that each group put together a 30 to 35 minute show incorporating music, song, comedy dance and drama.
