MOST of us don't know where we will be next summer but one Tralee man knows he'll be half way to Italy by June 2014.

Tralee's Tom Foley is taking part in the 'Home to Rome' charity where 32 people, representing each county, take on a cycle from the front door of their house to Rome. Each participant must pick a cancer charity and Tom has selected the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

"A friend of mine, Tony, sadly passed away from cancer a few years ago and the Kerry Hospice took great care of him, that's why I've chosen to raise money for them," said Tom.

Tom will leave his home in Tralee and cycle to Dublin Port where he will meet the other 31 cyclists. From Dublin, they will travel to the top of France, cross the Alps at a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, and cycle to Rome all in the space of 12 days. The 'Home to Rome' crew will sleep at night by camping on the roadside, while support vehicles will accompany them with repair equipment should they need it. "There's even talks of a documentary being made while we're cycling," continued Tom.

It doesn't stop there either. When Tom returns from Italy, he will take part in Tralee's 100km Marathon and the Iron Man Challenge to all in aid of the Kerry Hospice too. "I'm hoping to raise €10,000 from all the events" added Tom.

In the next few months, Tom will be organising fundraising events like quiz nights and waxing events but in the meantime, people can donate money by visiting www.mycharity.ie/events/tomfoleyhometorome or there's a collection bucket in Seancara, Abbeycourt Tralee and Ballyseedy.
