If your idea of the perfect Christmas is over-indulging on festive goodies, then a trip to Duagh might be just the solution for shedding those unwanted holiday pounds. The seventh annual Duagh Charity Walk takes place on St Stephen's Day and all proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the childrens hospital in Crumlin. Since 2006, over €60,000 has been raised for various charities by those participating in the walks. The walk fell victim to the hard winters of 2010 and 2011 but undaunted, organisers are determined this year's walk will proceed as scheduled.
Organiser, Mick Carmody, said the walk is very much a social event, full of craic and is a great family event with some much needed exercise after the big Christmas dinner.
A lot of organising goes into the event each year with preparations starting in October. Numerous people give of their time to publicise the event, marshall the walkers and ensure the walk takes place in a safe manner. The walk starts at O Brien's bar and also finishes there where some well deserved hot drinks will be provided to revive the walkers.
The walk starts at 11.30am and sponsorship cards are available locally. Raffle tickets are also on sale at O Brien's Bar. Contact Mick Carmody at 087-8172745.
