EVERYONE out to Rattoo round tower! The Vikings Are coming!
The Listowel Food Fair will be taking a turn for the Scandinavian on Saturday, November 3, next with the arrival of a band of latter-day Vikings.
Thanks to Listowel's twinning with Downpatrick, one of the best Viking recreation outfits in the country is coming to Listowel to show everyone exactly how the infamous Dane men and women lived and fought all those years ago. They're strictly friendly too, even if they won't look it, so we can put off the mass exodus to Rattoo.
The Magnus Viking Association of Downpatrick come to Listowel on the date and will begin giving demonstrations on Viking heritage at St John's Theatre and Arts Centre from 11am; including demonstrations of Viking crafts like spinning and patchwork quilting, presentations on textiles and herbs, ancient Viking board games and, of course, batte re-enactments!
The Seanchaí Centre plays host to a medieval banquet on Saturday night in continuance of the historic theme. The Magnus group will be in Listowel from November 1 until 4, so keep your eyes peeled at all times in the unlikely event their roles go to their heads a bit too much and they take off pillaging around the town.
