AN acclaimed documentary on the life and times of famed sports writer Con Houlihan is to be launched as a DVD in Castleisland on Friday.
Compiled by Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan and Tralee film-maker Maurice Healy, 'Waiting for Houlihan' achieved the highest rating in the RTE Arts Lives series when it was first broadcast in 2004 and was recently shown again to mark the passing of the giant of journalism and Irish life that was Con Houlihan.
In this extended version, there are a number scenes that did not appear in the shorter version broadcast on RTE, most notably a sequence in which Sliabh Luachra music legend Johnny O'Leary and daughter Ellen play for Con at the Patrick O'Keeffe memorial in Scartaglin. The documentary also features new contributions from friends and colleagues and visits places dear to Con's heart, including Knocknagoshel, ' the heart of the moorland'.
The launch will be in the River Island Hotel at 8.30pm.
