Tesco staff to strike in Manor West
Staff at Tesco's outlet at Manor West Retail Park in Tralee are to go on strike on Valentine's Day due to an on-going dispute over new contracts for long term staff.
Tesco had asked staff working for the company since 1996 to sign up to contracts offering reduced pay.
Mandate union members at the Manor West outlet - where two staff would be affected by the contract changes - were balloted on strike action on Monday night.
The Manor West store is one of nine Tesco outlets that will be picketed on February 14. The shops are due to open as normal
Mandate said the strike could escalate further with ballots to take place at a further 15 stores - including Tesco's two outlets in Killarney - in the coming days.
Tesco says it had "exhausted the State industrial relations process", adding that the ball is now in Mandate's court to abide by Labour Court recommendations that staff voted against last year.
