DEEPLY angered customers of AIB in Tarbert are to stage a protest outside the bank's Listowel premises on Friday over its plans to close the historic Tarbert branch.
The protest follows a public meeting in Tarbert on Friday night where many locals, from business people to GAA officers, voiced their anger over the AIB's decision. They are calling on the bank to revise its decision and keep the Tarbert branch open; at least on a part-time basis.
If the closure goes ahead Tarbert customers are likely to leave the AIB for other banks, one of the protest organisers John Fox told The Kerryman.
They say the closure will have a massive impact on the commercial life of Tarbert. It is also a huge blow for the area, still waiting on good news on the future of the Shannon LNG gas plant.
