Tara Downes rocks the packed concert hall at the Strand Hotel in Limerick during the Munster final qualifications for the All Ireland School's Talent Search.

LIMERICK City's Strand Hotel was rocked by the powerful voice of a young Listowel woman on Saturday night, catapulting her through to the next big round of the All Ireland Schools' Talent Competition.

Tara Downes, from Caherdown in Listowel, is now through to the Munster Final of the national competition after her show-stopping performance of the colourfully titled song 'I Never Met a Wolf who Didn't Love to Howl'.

"I love to sing, I've been singing since I was a child and have been taking lessons since I was 11," Tara told The Kerryman following her qualification. "I was delighted to get through on Saturday night, it means I'm through to the Munster Finals in Limerick on January 26 next so I'm really looking forward to it."

Nerves are not unduly bothersome to this north Kerry woman: "I prefer to call it adrenaline and I only feel it in the last few minutes before going on stage!" she said.

She takes it all in her stride as she did her recent winning of The X Factor Listowel held in St Michael's College, Listowel, in which she impressed everyone with her rendition of Duffy's Mercy.

"I'd love to get into musical theatre when I'm older I suppose. My dream would be to perform in a West End musical!" she said.
