IT was the highlight of an adventure cycling career for Tarbert man Danny Finucane when he got to pedal alongside none other than Stephen Roche on some of Mallorca's toughest routes.
Danny has just completed his seventh cycling challenge in aid of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. To date, he has raised over €50,000 for the cause through arduous endurance feats each year.
The Grand Canyon, the Rockies, Monterey in California, Atlanta, Georgia, Italy and Germany - Danny has pedalled through them all in his ongoing campaign for the children's hospital. But it was the recent trek through Mallorca that provided one of the highlights when Stephen Roche joined Danny's group.
"He was absolutely wonderful, a very nice man who cycled away with us for an afternoon," Danny said. "He has a centre out there and we were using his bikes so we were delighted when he came along with us."
Danny was one of 40 cyclists taking part and together they raised an incredible €150,000 for the Crumlin hospital. "It was a fantastic trip, very, very tough but the weather and scenery was wonderful and I would just like to thank my employers at the St John of Gods centre in Tralee for their generosity in always allowing me the time off each year to fundraise for Crumlin."
