Pupils set for EU Parliament
THREE students from Mercy Mounthawk have been invited to take part in the upcoming European Youth Parliament in Latvia.
The Mounthawk transition year trio, Niall Buckley, Meadhbh Lyons and Sean Hurley (pictured below) will be part of the Irish delegation after they impressed judges at the national finals of the EU European Studies Programme for schools.
European Studies has been running in Mercy Mounthawk school for the past seven years as an optional course for transition year students who take part in various local and regional youth forum throughout the year.
A number from each region are selected to debate at the national final and from there the Irish delegation for the European event is selected.
Niall, Meadbh and Sean clearly impressed the judges at the nationals as they have secured three of Ireland's five coveted spots on the plane to the European Youth Parliament in the Latvian capital Riga next March.
A big congratulations this week also to Orlaith Casey, another fourth year European Studies student at Mercy Mounthawk who won a trip to Strasbourg after entering a quiz on Graduate.ie.
She will travel to Strasbourg next February with 24 other students from all over the country to represent Ireland at a Euroscola conference in the European Parliament.
