THE HSE has confirmed that it is carrying out an investigation into the sudden death this week of an in-patient in Kerry General Hospital's Mental Health Unit.
A statement from HSE South said the service was in contact with the patient's family, gardai and the Mental Health Commission and will cooperate with any investigations that are deemed necessary.
HSE South, meanwhile, is also carrying out its own internal review of the circumstances and says it will continue to offer support to all those affected by the incident.
The Kerryman understands that the male patient is from the south Kerry area and in his late 30s. He was not a long term resident at the hospital and had been living independently before being admitted to hospital.
