Steve Smith of the Ploughman Bar (back left) is joined by Craig Smith, Margueritte Williams, Marie and Shannon Smith and Kathleen McCoy in full costume ahead of Friday night’s Roaring 20s event in the bar.

FLAPPER dresses, bobs and cloche hats will be at the ready in Abbeyfeale this Friday night, September 13, as the Ploughman Bar hosts a fundraising Roaring 20s Night.

Locals will literally be kicking up their heels to the Charleston as the Abbeyfeale bar hosts the event in an effort to raise funds for the local development association.

Owner Steve Smith explained that the Abbeyfeale vintners came together and decided to do their bit for the group, with each bar in town coming up with an idea to help raise funds.

"This was our way of helping out," Steve said ahead of Friday night's event. "We just wanted to do something fun and get people to dress up and just have a good night."

Tickets to the event are €5 and there will be a prize for the best dressed on the night, as well as lots of other spot prizes. Guests will also be treated to complimentary refreshments and finger food on arrival.

The Abbeyfeale Community Development Association (ACDA) was set up earlier this year to help promote the town from a tourist, business and social point of view. Among the group's plans for the year include the purchasing of Christmas lights, contesting the Tidy Towns competition, establishing a vintners group and setting up a specific Gathering committee, which did a tremendous job his summer.

Friday night's event is just one of many fundraisers being organised to help the group achieve their goals.
