NOT even the rain could keep them from enjoying the great atmosphere of the Listowel Family Resource Centre's annual Family Fun Day on Sunday.

In spite of the bad weather, up to 200 were present for the fun-filled range of activities which included everything from face-painting and magic to an exciting visit from the Listowel Fire Service.

"The weather was unkind and we had to move everything indoors, but it didn't stop people from coming out in their droves thankfully," parent support worker at the centre Denis Robinson said.

"We were delighted with the turn out and the day certainly achieved our aim of welcoming so many different families to the centre. It was very much a celebration of the variety of the types of families now present in Listowel, from single and co-parenting families to families in which children are being fostered or raised by grandparents. They all got a great welcome to the centre and thoroughly enjoyed the day."

One of the most exciting parts of the day for the younger ones was the appearance of the Listowel Fire Service. "We were deeply grateful for their help on the day and it proved a big hit with the children," Denis said. "They were kept occupied with lots of things, from a magic show to face and nail-painting and much more. We were also delighted with a performance from a group of young Lixnaw musicians on the day."
