Park area on the cards for Farranfore

A Killarney Printing Works generated artist's impression of the proposed development of the park area beside the railway in Farranfore.

Farranfore Depelopment Association is aiming to turn an area of waste ground into a walkway and recreational park.

Farranfore Depelopment Association is aiming to turn an area of waste ground into a walkway and recreational park.

The lack of community recreational space in the locality is one of the key issues identified by the community there.

The area around the railway water tower and platform has been identified as an one which could be developed. The old platform walls would serve as an ideal gallery area to provide an unique pictorial history of transport in Farranfore and in Kerry in general.

Agreement has been reached with Iarnrod Eireann to develop this area.

The project will require investment of time, money and expertise over the next couple of years. However, when complete it will be a long term asset to the local community, the county of Kerry and an added attraction to visitors to the Kingdom.

As part of the development association's fund raising activities they are holding a 'Who Wants to be a Thousandaire' in the Malton Hotel on Sunday night October 27th.

This promises to be a great night of entertainment for young and old.

In the meantime they are asking local businesses to support an advertising campaign on the night and full information can be had from any member.

Anyone willing to help with the fundraiser you're invited to contact Richard Sherwood at 087-2338530.
