SINCE its inception two years ago, the ' Trad for Trócaire' fundraising initiative has shown itself to be one of the most popular local entertainment events.
This year was no exception. For the third successive year local Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann musicians, singers and dancers teamed up with aid organisation, Trócaire, to stage Trad for Trócaire, a fundraising initiative aimed at alleviating poverty in the developing world.
The motto for the event is "Raising the Roof and Raising Money" and the roof of the Gleneagle Hotel was in danger of being lifted last Saturday night as hundreds of people thronged the Killarney venue for the 2012 event.
Once again, John and Mary Moriarty together with their sons Adrian and Conor from Kilcummin, organised the show, which featured the very best local talent as well as invited guests from further afield.
"Once again Trad for Trócaire proved to be huge success and a considerable sum of money was raised for Trócaire," said John this week.
John said that the final figure raised was still being tallied and that a cheque presentation would take place in the near future.
