THREE Kerrymen will represent their country at international level after being named on the Irish team that will compete in the upcoming Australian Rules AFL/ARFLI European Championships which kick off in Dublin this weekend.
James Flavin, Clounmacon, John Enright, Ballylongford, and Vincent Manning, Dingle, will line out with the Irish Warriors who are scheduled to take on the Swedish Elks in the opening group fixture on Saturday.
The Irish Warriors, who won the European Championships in their last outing in 2010, will defend their title in further group fixtures against the Croatia Knights and the Denmark Vikings.
Germany's Black Eagles and the Great Britain Bulldogs are also taking part in the European Championship meaning that an Ireland – England international clash in Dublin may be on the cards!
Veteran Aussie Rules campaigner Vincent Manning is delighted to line out for his country at the AFL/AFLI European Championships for a second time and he is eager to repeat the success of 2010 when the Irish Warriors team beat Denmark in Malmo in the championship final.
As defending European Champions, the other teams will certainly have their eyes fixed firmly on the Irish Warriors as they are also defending their International Cup title which they won in Melbourne in 2011.
"Some of the teams, especially the Scandinavian teams, are physically very strong but we are hoping some of the GAA experience will count by clocking up scores," said Vincent.
"It's great to see the Australian Rules European Championships being hosted in Ireland and we are really looking forward to it."
