RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta celebrated 'daichead bliain ag fás' on Friday night at a special concert in West Kerry, featuring the cream of Corca Dhuibhne and Gaeltachtaí na Mumhan's musical talent.
Raidió na Gaeltachta, whose Munster headquarters is in Baile na nGall, is celebrating 40 years on the air in 2012 and the concert in Feothneach, which was hosted by musician and broadcaster Pádraig Ó Sé from Dún Chaoin, attracted a full house on the night as musicians and singers from Kerry, Cork and Waterford united on stage in a stunning musical melee.
Performances from the likes of Corca Dhuibhne's Breandán Ó Beaglaoich and family, broadcasters Áine Uí Laoithe and Eilín Ní Chearna and Páidí Mhárthain Mac Gearailt set the bar for a fantastic night's entertainment.
The night continued with performances by Cill Chuáin author and musician Maidhc Dainnín Ó Sé, Dún Chaoin native Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh (who, on Sunday, jetted off to the States on tour), Dingle musician Aoife Granville and friends, Tim Dennehy, uileann pipe maestro Eoin Duignan and Éilís Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon of trad singing outfit Lumiere.
As for anyone who couldn't attend the concert, fear not, as it will be broadcast on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on Christmas Day at 7.30pm.
