The late Andrew O'Callaghan
THE town of Tralee and beyond was cast into a shadow of shock and disbelief when news filtered through on Sunday, August 26, of the sudden, unexpected and untimely death death of a young man, Andrew O'Callaghan, of 49 Kevin Barry's Villas, Tralee.
Andrew was affectionately known as "Mush" to his many friends and he had just celebrated his 23rd birthday the previous day. Born to parents John and Kathleen on August 25, 1989, Andrew was a much loved son and brother and for a man of tender years, was a valued and highly thought of member of the Kevin Barry's Villas community.
He loved nature and his happy easy going acceptance of life and friends he made from his schooldays, in Moyderwell, Tralee CBS, and Tralee Community College endeared him to many. Andrew was the life and soul of many happy family social occasion and when he entered a room, his smile had the ability to make any person feel important and welcome. His friends ranged from all age groups and Andrew's outgoing personality, made him a much admired friend.
A childhood love of of nature and the outdoors, began at a very young age. He would accompany his dad John on many hunting and fishing trips and his knowledge of all animals made him a 'consultant' throughout the neighbourhood.
He was also gifted with his hands and could make any implement. His chicken shed where he lovingly cared for his brood was testimony to his carpentary skills and he never refused any request from neighbours or friends, when asked to lend a hand with any task. He also had a great faith which was most important to him.
His grieving family wish to express their solidarity with Andrew's friends, who are suffering with his loss at this sad time.
Andrew is survived by his father John, mother Kathleen and brothers Sean, Billy and Martin, many relatives and a large circle of friends.
The removal of his remains took place on Wednesday, August 29 from McElligott's Funeral Home to St John's Church. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Thursday, followed by burial in New Rath Cemetery.
